Back when we reopened in Baton Rouge in 2006, Karen was on the hunt for a spot where she could chill out solo and enjoy a great meal. An avid bookworm and world traveler, Karen loves cozy bars and eateries that attract locals and are part of a community’s fabric. She wanted to find one near her house.

“Bistro Byronz felt right, and the food was really good,” recalls Karen. “I started coming and I haven’t stopped.”

For real, y’all. Now semi-retired, the former political consultant stops by nearly every weekday. After our staff members hug her neck (she says they’re like her kids), she sits down and settles in with a book and one of three favorite dishes: our classic burger, the Byronz sandwich or the chicken paillard. To say Karen likes to read is an understatement. She’s always got at least two books with her – one she’s reading and one she’ll start next.

Karen’s voracious reading habit prompted Mike to say, “we need to set up a bookshelf for you.”

Well, we did. Tucked in a corner on the west side of the restaurant is a book nook filled with titles Karen donated. It’s our restaurant’s version of those birdhouse-style “Little Libraries” you see in neighborhoods. Feel free to borrow one, or drop one off you’d like to share.

Karen’s ancestral home is Jolly Old England and every year she returns to see the sites and visit friends. She says Bistro Byronz provides the same enveloping experience of an English pub.

We agree. Our goal has always been to create a warm, familiar and vibrant place where you feel like you belong.

Come join us.
